Welcome reception

Ghanaian Evening

Gala Dinner - GhIS Awards Dinner
Click picture for bigger format. The Annual Awards Dinner of GhIS will this time be combined with the gala dinner of the 5th FIG Regional Conference. This unique dinner will include music, entertainment, speeches and last but not least meeting old and new friends in a beautiful surroundings.
Venue: Golden Tulip Hotel.
Time: Friday evening. Buses will leave from the La-Palm at 19:00.
Fee: Included in the registration fee.
Dress code: Business attire.

Visit the Land Administration Program and get familar with its different components.

Date: Friday.
Time: Starting from La-Palm Hotel at 15:00, return to the hotel by 17:30.

Tour to Cape Coast and Kakum National Park

Click picture for bigger format. Tour to Cape Coast and Kakum National Park. 2.5 hours drive to West of Accra to visit the largest storehouse of mankind - the lush tropical rainforest. Visitors will have an opportunity to experience a walk on the only treetop 350 metre canopy walkway in Africa.
Click picture for bigger format. Visit the Elmina Castle to learn about the history of the slave trade and see the salve dungeons of the castle (built in 1482). On the way also have a look on local market and to the Cape Coast Castle (built 1652).

Social Tours

Accra City Tour
 
Discover the capital of Ghana with visits to places of historical, cultural and economic interest. This will cover old Accra where one will see the beginnings of the city, the Kwame Nkrumah mausoleum where the greatest African visionary leader in post independence times lies. A visit to the national museum reveals the Ghanaian as he has lived through the ages to date. A visit to the Dubois centre will catch a glimpse of the life and works of Dr W.E.B. Dubois- a celebrated African –American scholar who spent his last years here on the motherland. We cap our tour with a visit to the art centre where one can buy artifacts of choice through the fun of bargaining.
Date: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, same programme on each day.

Akuapem Scenic Tour
 
Experience the gently rolling countryside & beautiful scenic view of the Accra plains from the Akuapem hills as one travels through the quaint and quiet settlements. The tour is further enhanced with a visit to the serene and cool Aburi Botanical Gardens created in 1890. Listen to your guide as he explains different plants from different parts of the world. We will also make a detour to see wood carvers at work.
Date: Thursday.
Time: Starting from La-Palm Hotel at 14:00, return to the hotel by 17:30.

Shaii Hill Ecotours and Akosombo
 


An hours’ drive north east of Accra takes one to the closest terrestrial enclave to Accra. At this game reserve tourists should expect to see baboons, kobs, bushbucks. For the more adventurous, the ancient caves which in this reserve is for you to explore with the help of a guide. A perfect place for a break!
The second part of the tour takes you to one of Ghana’s landmarks the Volta dam. Behind the dam lies the world’s largest man-made lake. There is a lectured tour of this dam.
Date: Friday.
Time: Starting from La-Palm Hotel at 8:00, return to the hotel by 16:00.
Price: 45 EUR per person.

Safari - Mole National Park - 3 days/2 nights
 


Mole National Park is the most developed park in Ghana. The best time for game viewing is between November and May. Expect to see, elephants, warthogs, buffalos, duikers, hartebeest, bushbuck, waterbuck, kob & olive baboons.
Day one, will be a drive to the park with stopovers in Kumasi and Kintampo (geographical centre of Ghana). Day two will take you hiking to view game via the loops accompanied by an armed guard. A 13th century Larabanga mosque with its distinctive façade will be visited in the afternoon. Day 3 will involve the drive back to Accra.

Ashanti - Kingdom of Gold - 2 days/1 night
 


The Ashantis are the 17th century African civilization that resisted British rule until 1901. The kingdom ruled by their king- the Asantehene is rich in gold.
A visit to Kumasi the capital will take us to prime areas as the Manyhia palace museum, the Prempeh II museum where the history, culture and tradition of the people is told in relics. We would visit the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology College of Art. On the outskirts of Kumasi we shall also visit the craft village of Bonwire (the cradle of kente cloth weaving), Ahwia (known for woodcraft) and Ntonsu (known for the traditional adinkra cloth.
