If this number is not reached, alternative places will be allocated strictly in order of receipt of bookings. Where participants cancel their tour bookings prior to 2 February 2016, payment will be refunded in full. Thereafter, no refund will be made.

ST1 - TranzAlpine Train Journey East to West –Full day 

Time: 8.15 – 18.05
Fee: 115 EUR - 200 NZD

One of the world’s greatest train journeys - cross the fertile farmlands of the Canterbury Plains and enjoy thrilling vistas over deep gorges as you travel alongside the ice-fed Waimakariri River. Traverse the mighty Southern Alps, where spectacular views of the chiselled alpine landscape will take your breath away at every turn. Explore the West Coast town of Greymouth before returning back to Christchurch in the early evening.

A Red Bus will collect you from Rydges Latimer Hotel, 30 Latimer Square, Christchurch on Sunday morning at 7am to transport you to the Train Station for an 8.15am departure.  The train will return 6.05pm.  A Red Bus will take you back to Rydges Latimer Hotel.

Alternatively you can make your own way to the Train Station, Troup Drive, Tower Junction.  You will need to be there at least 20 minutes prior to departure time.

Food and beverage can be purchased on board.  We suggest you pack a warm jacket and bring your camera.

Your tickets will be available at the train station – look for the red FIG teeshirt.

 

ST2 - Christchurch Sightseeing PLUS The Tannery Shopping Emporium – 4.5hrs

Viewing from the top deck of a fully refurbished London Double Decker – the very best way to see Christchurch – the central rebuild area with some fascinating new developments, innovative street artworks and the surrounds which will showcase the Port Hills, Sumner Beach coastal village and one of Christchurch’s most beautiful homestead gardens. Finish with a little time to browse the shops in a unique out of town location.

A beautiful scenic journey across the unique Banks Peninsula – so much to do and so much to see. The outing will be punctuated with stops at some unique locations including Gallery Cafes, the boutique Barrys Bay Cheese factory and the perfect spot for the perfect photo.  You will enjoy some time on your own to explore this beautiful French village before returning to Christchurch.

Visiting Willowbank allows you to participate in a story.  Not just a Wildlife Park as you will see in other parts of the world, Willowbank is a holistic New Zealand experience combining conservation, culture and is your opportunity to experience New Zealand’s endangered wildlife in a natural setting.

A short distance north of Christchurch is the Waipara Valley, in recent years discovered as the perfect region for vineyard tendering.  Dotted with an array of wineries from boutique family run to larger commercial operations, we have selected our favourites for some tastings including fascinating information from the growers themselves straight from their cellar doors. A relaxed luncheon at a popular garden vineyard will be included.

ST6 - Shopping Extravaganza - cancelled

A selection of Christchurch’s premium and unique shopping locations including the unique Re:Start Container Shopping Mall, one of Christchurch’s most innovative central city malls, bordered by the famous Ballantynes Department store, a significant part of Christchurch’s tradition. The quaint art Deco New Regent Street and The Tannery, a beautiful Victorian shopping arcade created out of an old tannery site.  If time permits, explore the galleries of the seaside village of Sumner.

Travel across the Canterbury Plains to the edge of the braided Rakaia River, board the famous Discovery Jet for an exhilarating journey through the river canyons. A few spins will be a highlight of the trip. Board the 4WD vehicles and travel across a High Country station, through native NZ bush to elevations according fantastic vistas, enjoy a typical kiwi BBQ lunch in a rustic country setting.

Venturing up the East Coast will build an outing full of surprises visiting a Seal Colony, enjoying a drop of wine tasting and taking in the famous Whale Watch experience aboard the specially designed catamaran vessels ideal for premium viewing and preservation of the environment. A coastal journey beginning through the picturesque Waipara Valley Wine Region, continuing to travel along the sea coast to Kaikoura.

Visit a typical High Country Station where you will be welcomed with true Kiwi hospitality as your host demonstrates some typical New Zealand farm practices. Travelling north today will be all about relaxing. Hanmer Springs is a popular little village with a big vision to create an award winning complex of relaxing rock pools, soothing sulphur pools, an array of water jets and bubbles - at a range of temperatures. The village offers unique shopping and some cool little cafes or if you are feeling energetic, take a bush walk up the famous Conical Hill for magical views before boarding the coach to rest as you journey back to Christchurch.
