• The Department of Geomatics has evolved from the Department of Surveying, which was established in 1949 although surveying has been taught in the University since 1861. The new name encompasses the broad scope of modern measurement science, land information science and spatial data management.
  • Today the Department is a thriving centre and educates students from a wide range of backgrounds in all of the Geomatic disciplines to prepare them for a satisfying Geomatic career.
  • The Department in association with the Department of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne provides The Centre of Geographic Information Systems and Modelling, which carries out research on geographic information systems, their applications, environmental visualisation and modelling, and to provide a focus for University teaching in these areas.
