Climate Responsive Land Governance and Disaster Resilience: Safeguarding Land Rights

Mika-Petteri Torhonen, World Bank

Dr. Mika-Petteri Torhonen is the Global Lead on Land of the World Bank based in Singapore. He is a Land Surveyor specialized in tenure security and land registration programs since early 1990’s. He leads the World Bank’s professional Community of Practice of land administration specialists and Mika has been instrumental in developing the World Bank’s investment lending and knowledge operations portfolio in land and geospatial system modernization. His current interest areas include access to land for climate actions and infrastructure development, and developing property valuation standards, infrastructure and solutions. Mika is a Finnish National and holds a Doctor of Science Degree from the Helsinki University of Technology (Aalto University).

Dr Diane Dumashie, FIG President

Diane, president of the International Federation of Surveyors, emphasizes in the FIG Council Work Plan 2023-2026 the imperative for a sustainable profession that provides services in a sustainable manner and aligns with the global sustainable development agenda. It highlights the urgency to take action now to address the climate agenda.
Diane is widely acknowledged as a creative and strategic business thinker with a proven ability to lead and manage change, to energise and resolve complex issues and deliver successful outcomes for all stakeholders. This has led her into the field of knowledge transfer including designing and facilitating workshops for National and Local governments to adapt to organisational change, helping Professionals and grassroots organisations to accommodate global drivers and leading study visits for Business and Ministry senior teams to assess in country context and strategic next steps.

Closing Ceremony

At the Closing Ceremony a resolution and call for action text will be presented. This call for action text will be based on the outcome of each of the sessions during the Regional Conference.

The Call for Action will be presented by Dr. Clarissa Augustinus.

Publication

A publication will be published after the conference with summaries from each session and the Call for Action.

This Call to Action aims to deliver concrete strategies and actionable recommendations to:

  • Strengthen and safeguard land rights against climate challenges in South Asia
  • Collaborative partnerships for climate resilience in South Asia
  • Enhancing disaster resilience through knowledge and capacity
  • Enhancing regional responses through best Practices and fit-for-purpose standards
