Commission 1: Professional Standards and Practice

Report to the 22nd General Assembly

Sun City 30 May - 4 June 1999

1. General

The activities of Commission 1 as proposed in the Work Plan have all commenced.

The Annual Meeting of the Commission is planned to take place in Sun City.

2. Working Groups

WG 1.1 Organisation

Working Group 1 is investigating organisational matters under the chair of Klaus Rürup and is hoping to have some draft papers for discussion in Sun City.

WG 1.2 Business Practices

Working Group 2 is looking into business practices under the chair of Iain Greenway have actively reviewed the terms of reference. The scope and objectives of the Working Group are now:

In Sun City, a half-day workshop will consider the material available and how this can be translated into outputs by the Working Group. Likely outputs will be:

WG 1.3 Internet site

Working Group 3 is developing a web site for the Commission under the chair of Stephen Djaba. This Working Group has been very active and it is planned to review and finalise the content of the web pages with a workshop in Sun City.

3. Other Matters

The chair of the Commission participated in the Commission 2 Seminar in Wuhan, China during October 1998. He has also been involved with planning the proposed UN/FIG Roundtable to be held in Melbourne in October 1999.

A number of papers by delegates of Commission 1 are being presented at the Sun City Conference.

A newsletter is planned following the Sun City General Assembly and Conference.
