One month into 2025 and a lot of activites have already taken place
and are being planned. Currently the main focus is on the upcoming FIG
Working Week 2025 that will be held in Brisbane, Australia 6-10 April.
All member organisations of FIG are invited to the General Assembly
that will take place on 6 and 10 April.
Currently, a large number of active FIG representatives together with
the local organisers from Australia are working on creating an exciting
technical programme for the conference. Many abstracts have been received.
Thank you for this large interest. It has therefore been decided to
extend the early bird registration until 17 February to ensure that
authors and others can get their funding in place and be able to
register for the conference at this favourable price. The Plenary
sessions set the scene of each of the conference days and include
exciting Australian and International high-level speakers. Secure your
registration now and make use of the discounted early bird fee.

FIG and Geospatial Council of Australia have the honour to invite you to the FIG Working Week 2025 held jointly with the national event Locate25.
This spectacular event will be held in Brisbane Convention & Exhibtion Centre (BCEC) in the capital city of Queensland, Australia. The dynamic city of Brisbane shows seamless blends of urban sophistication with cutting-edge technology and research, making it the perfect location for geospatial and surveying experts and its related professions.
The technical programme is currently being worked on. Exciting sessions await you with a wealth of topics. This event will feature over 80 technical sessions, interactive workshops, and a comprehensive exhibition, showcasing the latest advancements in geospatial technology.
The three plenary sessions will set the scene on each of the three conference days:

Members are encouraged to attend the FIG General
Assembly which will take place on 6 and 10 April
2025 in Brisbane, Australia in connection with the FIG
Working Week 2025. We do hope to see many members represented. The
invitation including the agenda of the General Assembly will be sent
to all members of FIG in due time. The General Assembly
includes election of new Chairs Elects of the ten FIG Commissions
and election between two destinations for the FIG Working Week 2029.

FIG Commission 4 on Hydrograpy has created a Working Group on "Mapping the Plastic" in response to the devastating effects of plastic on the Earth’s oceans, and specifically on waterways and coastal environments. The Milefsky Award is made annually to an individual or organisation that has advanced boundary-making or cross-border cooperation. Buddhi Rarayan Shresta, who is well-known for his work on boudaries receives the award in 2024. Read more |
FIG was saddned to hear about Rob Mahoney's death. He was actively involved in several FIG activities, espeically in FIG Commission 3, in Working Groups, with mulitple papers and presentations of which some were published as the FIG Article of the Month and as a splendid session chair.
