2019 Geo-spatial Technology Impacts: Shifting the Paradigm
in Africa - Workshop
27-29 November 2019, Dakar, Senegal
FIG, and in my capacity as Chair of the network, I invite
you to the FIG Africa Regional Capacity Network collaboration with the FGF
Universities Conference in Dakar, Senegal, from 27 – 29 November 2019.
The FIG Capacity Development Network (CDN) aims to support FIG regional
member associations and academic members. The network envisages regional
approaches to working and emerged in response to consideration by the FIG
Council and approved by the General Assembly in Sofia, Bulgaria, in May
2015. The ARN aims are in line with the CDN aims in supporting regional
association members and academic members using a networking approach based
on enhancing communication in the region and promoting the ideals of the
FIG.
It is with great pleasure that the FIG ARN along with the FGF (Fédération
des Géométres Francophones) and ONGES (Ordre National des Géométres Experts
du Sénégal) as the African member association of FIG, welcome you to Dakar.
The aim of the meeting in Dakar is to engage with regional associations in
francophone and anglophone Africa together through the highly successful FGF
Universities conferences who have so generously invited us to partner with
them in their 8th Conference. The conference will accommodate French and
English language presentations with the aid of dual language projection
displays. The Young Surveyors Africa Network of the FIG will also hold a
workshop prior to the conference. A report on the collaborative meeting will
be presented at the FIG Congress in Netherlands in May 2020.
This collaborative conference will be of major importance for senior and
middle managers in land survey and valuation practices, tertiary educational
organisations and land professional institutes. It will bring together
decision makers, practitioners and academics from several African nations
with expertise in areas across the FIG membership. The design of the
conference will promote engagement between participants, for instance
through round table, discussions, and will facilitate networking
opportunities for participants.
The conference venue will be the King Fahd Palace in the area of les
Almadies in Dakar, Senegal. To register, and for more information on the
venue and facilities may be found on the conference website:
http://www.geometres-francophones.org/evenements/dakar-2019/
If you intend registering for the conference and would like more information
(apart from what is available on the website, or if you would like
information in English), please contact me directly (jennifer.whittal[at]uct.ac.za)

Four roundtable discussions will be organised in order to promote
engagement between participants.
