FIG President Stig Enemark visited Sydney 1 August 2008 to meet with representatives of the local organising committee for hosting the FIG XXIV Congress in Sydney 11-16 April 2010.

Sydney 2010 will be the first FIG Congress organised in a joint venture between FIG and the hosting country. A Joint Venture Agreement has been developed through meetings and correspondence for some time in order to settle to roles and responsibilities for organising the congress. The agreement also states, for the first time, that the surplus of the congress will be split equally between FIG and the hosting member association. The key purpose of the meeting was to sign the Agreement that forms the basis for the future work of organising the congress in Sydney, April 2010.

Next to the FIG President the meeting included ISA President Jim Curnow; FIG Vice President Matt Higgins; and Congress Director Paul Harcombe. Furthermore Mark Gordon and Jonathan Saxon (ISA Board) and Sara Foda (Senior Conference Manager, Tour Hosts Pty Limited) participated in the meeting as observers.

The meeting included a range of issues that will be taken forward by the Operational Management Committee and especially the Congress Director and the Professional Congress organiser (Tour Hosts) in cooperation with the FIG Office over the coming months.

The meeting demonstrated the highly professional and very friendly spirit of cooperation. We should all look forward to a high level congress in Sydney 2010.
