| President Stig Enemark visits Nepal, the Survey Department, 
	and the Land Management Training Centre, Ministry of Land Reform and 
	ManagementKathmandu and Dhuklikhel, Nepal, 14-18 February 2009  Mt. Everest in the scenic 
	Himalaya mountain range.  President Stig Enemark visited Nepal Survey Department and the 
	Land Management Training Centre, Ministry of Land Reform and Management 
	14-18 February 2009.  The visit was hosted by Mr. Raja Ram Chhatkuli, Director General 
	of the Survey Department and Mr. Babu Ram Acharya, Secretary of the 
	Office of the Prime Minister. The visit included a general introduction to 
	the activities of the Department and the overall approach and problems 
	related to surveying and land management in Nepal following the recent 
	change of status from a monarchy to federal republic.

 |  The visit also included a dinner function for key invited people where 
	President Enemark gave a presentation on land management on support of 
	sustainable development. Further, half a day will scheduled for visits at 
	Ministry of Land Reform and Management for discussion with key people in 
	charge of the of the current land reform process such as the High Level Land 
	Reform Commission and the National Planning Commission. The meeting provided 
	the opportunity to stress the important role of the surveying profession and 
	institutions in the reform process.  The meetings in Kathmandu also included the opportunity to meet with Mr.
				Buddhi N Shrestha, President of the Nepal Institution of Chartered 
	Surveyors who will now become a member of FIG.  The Land Management Training Centre (LMTC) is located in Dhuklikhel about 
	35 km East of Kathmandu. LMTC is organized under the Surveying Department 
	and is offering a four year BSc program in cooperation with the nearby 
	Kathmandu University. LMTC also offers a range of training programs and 
	short term courses as well as CPD activities. During the visit President 
	Enemark gave a presentation to lectures and students on Surveying Education 
	and the need for interaction between Education, research and professional 
	practice. The presentation was well received and encouraged a discussion 
	around educational innovation and also the interaction between FIG and the 
	academic members. LMTC is already an Academic member of FIG.  The visit at LMTC was hosted by Mr. Rabin K Sharma, Executive 
	Director of LMCT. At the following visit to the neighbouring Kathmandu 
	University President Enemark had the opportunity to meet with the Vice 
	Chancellor Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, and Dr. Bhola Thapa, Dean of 
	the School of Engineering. Finally, the visit included the opportunity to 
	visit the camp for training Surveying Department personnel located at a 
	separate site 15 minutes drive from LMTC.
