FIG General Assembly - results of the votings

10 April 2025, Brisbane, Australia

At the FIG General Assembly there were four actual elections. These took place during the week, starting on Tuesday 8 April 13:00 (EAST) and ending at Wednesday 9:00 (EAST).

For the voting the system SimplyVoting was used, as in previous years.

Out of the 103 member associatons 66 registered for voting. This means that in total there were 80 votes (some members have two and three votes depending on their size. 68 votes were cast in each voting.

Agenda item 14: Proposed change to FIG internal rules - election of Commission Chairs

The General Assembly was asked whether they approve a change in the Internal Rules change the Internal Rules - election of Commission Chairs Elects item 11.8 from 11.8 The election of chair-elect shall be decided by a vote of the General Assembly at the meeting which takes place two years prior to the General Assembly at which chairs are elected. to 11.8 The election of chair-elect shall be decided by a vote of the General Assembly at the meeting which takes place one year prior to the General Assembly at which chairs are elected. Agenda item 20 A: Election of Commission Chairs Elects

For nine of the commissions there is only one candidate per commission. This means that there will be no actual election taking place. The General Assembly is asked to agree to appoint the chairs elects to these nine commissions (For commission 3 there are three candidates which will be included in the following voting item) Please read more in the General Assembly agenda:  https://fig.net/organisation/general_assembly/agendas_and_minutes/2025/agenda.asp#20

Agenda Item 20 B: Election of Commission 3 Chair Elect

For Commission 3, FIG has received three candidates for the position as Chair Elect for the term 2025-26 (to be Chair for the term 2027-2030). The General Assembly is asked to select one candidate. In case one candidate will get more than 50% of the votes this candidate will be Chair Elect. If no candidate gets more than 50% of the votes there will be a second round of voting between the two candidates with the most votes. Since one candidate got more than 50% of the votes, this candidate was elected already in the first round, and no secon round was needed.

Agenda item 21: Election of host and destination for FIG Working Week 2029

Canadian Institute of Geomatics CIG received more than 50% of the votes and is elected as host of FIG Working Week 2029 in Halifax, Canada. Thanks to Uganda for submitting a very good bid, too.
