Tackling the Global Challenges

Responsibilities of the council members 2023-2026

The President, will promote the Federation and the significance of the profession; communicate and clarify to the membership the vision and direction of the Federation, contribute in enhancing the Federation’s partnership with UN related agencies, the World Bank and other external international or multi-lateral agencies as well as sister and allied organizations.

The Council is responsible for preparing the Annual Review; preparing and recommending the annual budget as well as a four-year rolling projections of regular income and expenditure; considering and setting membership fees for members except for member associations; developing Council policies; considering, negotiating and recommending partnership arrangement via Memoranda of Understanding; and monitoring and reviewing the overall performance of the Federation.

Council meetings will take place at regular intervals, at a minimum of three times a year including meetings during the FIG conferences.

The individual responsibilities of the members of the Council are as follows:

President Diane A Dumashie

  • Provide the professional and strategic leadership of the Federation
  • Take appropriate initiatives to ensure that the Federation achieves its principal objectives as laid down in the statutes and defined within the plan of work
  • Clarify and communicate a future vision for the Federation and oversee the development of the Federation’s strategic plan
  • Promote the Federation to external agencies and ensure the coordination of the Federation’s relations with such agencies
  • Recommend and ensure the appointment of task forces to undertake specific tasks which are not within the ambit of the commissions or to assist the work of the Council
  • Consult the General Assembly whenever a question arises outside the administrative powers of the Council submit a written report to each meeting of the General Assembly.
  • Be responsible for financial implementation based on the guidelines given by the Council, presentation and reporting back to the General Assembly on finance issues,
  • Co-operate with other international and with regional bodies according to the decisions of the Council

Vice President Mikael Lijle

  • Chair the Advisory Committee of Commission Officers together with the ACCO representative (co- chair wef September 2023)
  • Ensure that commission chairs develop their plans of work for inclusion in the Federation’s work plan
  • Ensure that commission chairs implement tasks assigned to them in congress resolutions and included in their work plans
  • Ensure that commission chairs deliver high quality technical programmes at the FIG events
  • Ensure liaison as required between the commissions together with the ACCO representative
  • Co-operate with other international and with regional bodies according to the decisions of the Council
  • Chair and participate in task forces as appropriate, specifically task force on the role of FIG in International trends and future Geospatial Information Ecosystem
  • Report as required to meetings of the General Assembly.

Vice President Kwame Tenadu

  • Leading and encouraging regional FIG capacity development networks within the Americas Region and relationships and Turkish- stans regions; being cognisant of existing and building relationship with allied regional bodies
  • Lead on engagement with Academic members responsible for FIG’s initiatives on Academic Members and co-ordinate related agenda for action, outputs and delivery; coordinate the annual Forum for Academic Members; supporting development in the areas of professionalism and ethics and provide Council with regular status report indicating highlights and challenges on matters related thereto.
  • Co responsibility in policy areas of mutual recognition and professional ethics, etc. and develop the website information in support of implementing such policies
  • Participate in task forces as appropriate
  • Report as required to meetings of the General Assembly.

Vice President Daniel Steudler

  • Engage and provide a link with national mapping organisations, leading towards the Director General Forum at FIG Working Weeks in Orlando, Accra and Brisbane
  • Chair and participate in task forces as appropriate, specifically task force on the role of FIG in International trends and future Geospatial Information Ecosystem
  • Co chair Councils working group on FIG knowledge assets and infrastructure and other initiatives including providing oversight to standards, peer-review process, knowledge sharing initiatives
  • Co chair the Advisory Committee of Commission Officers together with the ACCO representative (wef September 2023), to
  • Ensure that commission chairs deliver high quality technical programmes at the FIG events
  • Ensure liaison as required between the commissions together with the ACCO representative
  • Prepare and coordinate the FIG Journal together with the President and the Chairperson of ACCO
  • Report as required to meetings of the General Assembly.

Vice President Winnie Shu

  • Council representative on the FIG Foundation Board
  • Council’s representative to the Youth and Young surveyors Network and under-represented groups
  • Chair and participate in task forces as appropriate, specifically task force on The Surveyor’s Profession: Evolutionary Diversity
  • Co responsibility in policy areas of mutual recognition and professional ethics, etc. and develop the website information in support of implementing such policies
  • Co-operate with other international and with regional bodies according to the decisions of the Council
  • Report as required to meetings of the General Assembly.

This list of responsibilities will be updated in relation to the plan of action for implementing the Council Work Plan as necessary.
