24-26 September 2024, Stuttgart, Germany

Stuttgart Messe Center hosted the 2024 edition of Intergeo. 17,500 guests found their way to the exhibition where almost 600 exhibitors were waiting to meet with them, including FIG. Again this year, FIG had a stand at the so-called "Verbändepark" , together with various German association, and also CLGE was represented at the stand.

Many found their way to the FIG booth which resulted in good talks both with guests who had never heard about FIG before, with other exhibitors and with well-known faces within FIG.

Among the almost 600 exhibitors it was amazing to see the huge variety of products that are offered within the surveying and geospatial industry.

A conference was held in connection with the large fair, with the overall theme of Inspiration for a Smarter World. It was clear that the importance of geoinformation is more crucial today than ever before. Several presentations was around the enormous amount of data that is being collected. Today it is not a problem to achieve data; the challenge is to use the data in a smart way and use the correct data. Global challenges such as e.g. climate need spatial data.

In his opening speech, Rudolf Staiger, current President of DVW and FIG Honorary president said: Buzzwords such as Building Information Modeling, Digital Twins and Smart Cities will become tangible at the Expo by providing a visible focus in the area of digitality. Geospatial data in all its breadth and depth, from collection methods using satellites, UAV, mobile mapping and GNSS to integrated spatial reference and applications in climate adaptation and property security, will be the foundation. Be part of it and shape it!

Special focus was on Earth Observations, Digital Twins, Digitalisation, BIM and GIS, and the interplay between housing/construction, transport and energy in urban and rural areas. Digitalisation and AI was present in almost all sessions and around the fairground.

FIG Visited both corporate members of FIG and potential members and discussed options for the upcoming events in Nepal - FIG Regional Conference, the Working Week 2025 in Brisbane, Australia, the large Congress in 2026 in CapeTown, South Africa, FIG Working Week 2027 in Stavanger, Norway and the special celebration year 2028 that will mark the 150th anniversary of FIG and the Working Week will be held in Paris, France, where FIG was founded in 1878.

The opening ceremony was held on Monday evening at the Landesmuseum Stuttgart / Württemberg State Museum. After welcome addresses there was a panel discussion with Thomas Kijftenbelt, ESRI,Thomas Harring, Hexagon, Aaron Addison, WGIC, Markus Westphall, Trimble and Daniela Becker, Autodesk moderated by Rudolf Staiger.
